Role Overview
The Senior Category Manager for Global Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight Procurement , part of the Global Logistics Procurement organization, will be responsible for the overall enterprise Category Strategy for Road, Rail and Intermodal transportation across the Haleon Supply Chain as well as the direct sourcing activities for International Road Freight (Leg B) and associated services globally. They will deliver the required business outcomes across Haleon’s £150 m global spend on this category by working closely with Regional / Cross‑BU procurement colleagues, Site / CMO teams, Regional Logistics Operations, Logistics CoE team and functional business subject‑matter experts. The role will directly manage and drive a set of Road, Rail and Intermodal sub‑category strategies (such as FTL or LTL) and be the procurement business partner to Quality Supply Chain and our Trading Partners organization. They will ensure supporting teams correctly implement agreed commercial outcomes, and as necessary resolve commercial escalations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Global category responsibility for Haleon Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight, including definition of overall enterprise category strategy and alignment with key global stakeholders.
- Global category responsibility for Haleon International Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight (Leg B), conducting regional tenders, mini‑bid and spot‑market sourcing activity as required across all regions (key focus on EMEA and NAM, but also including APAC and LATAM – supported by regionally located procurement teams).
- Shape the category strategy for inbound road freight to Site / CMO locations.
- Support Regional / Cross‑BU procurement colleagues and help drive best practice for outbound road freight to Haleon customers and distributors.
- Provide SME input to the Haleon International Freight Operating Model and associated network strategy initiatives.
- Support / own elements of the broader international freight strategy and initiatives (all modes, full network) : from developing inter‑modal or cross‑dock solutions, to sustainability initiatives and / or M&A‑related network changes.
- Delivery of annual net savings targets and rolling pipeline for international road freight in line with the required business outcomes.
- Category leadership for all road, rail and intermodal freight rate benchmarking and market‑intelligence data sources and contracts.
- Ownership of Haleon fuel mechanism and contract standards for international road freight, including tracking of fuel‑price evolution and spend.
- Support Haleon annual business‑planning processes as required, by providing category input on non‑fuel and fuel inflation and maintenance / tracking of category savings in Haleon reporting systems.
- Rate‑management compliance for international road freight pricing in Haleon systems.
- Contract life‑cycle management for all international road freight agreements.
- Active involvement in development and deployment of end‑to‑end enterprise supply‑chain strategies and initiatives.
- Works in a sub‑team of five logistics procurement colleagues.
Qualifications
Minimum level of education required : Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or Finance. Preferred : Relevant master’s degree or industry qualification.Extensive specialist knowledge and practical logistics experience, e.g., viewed as subject‑matter expert in managing logistics category in a regional / global sourcing context and / or demonstrated 3PL / 4PL logistics operations capabilities.Demonstrated ability to forge close business relationships with internal and external stakeholders at management level. Understanding business value, business priorities, and translating that into driving strategies for competitive commercial advantage.Highly developed commercial acumen with demonstrated success in delivering logistics and / or sourcing transformations.Successful multi‑year track record in delivering year‑on‑year savings or continuous improvements in a challenging economic climate.Skilled negotiator adept at managing complex negotiations / influencing at management level with both external and internal stakeholders.In‑depth understanding of logistics environment & supplier‑relationship models.Experience managing the delivery of large projects (project and change‑management experience with strong leadership) and with end‑to‑end service / operations management.Strong analytical, written and verbal communications, and influencing skills.Able to work independently in a matrix environment and with a high tolerance for ambiguity.Location
