About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Internal Control Monitoring Automation Expert to drive the implementation and continuous improvement of our internal control framework, with a focus on application controls and SAP authorizations. This role partners closely with global business leaders, audit teams, and IT to ensure a strong, risk-balanced control environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor adherence to the AkzoNobel Golden Rules for application and automated controls; lead semi-annual assessments and report outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the impact of IT landscape changes on control effectiveness; define and execute monitoring plans for new and modified controls.
  • Oversee the SAP GRC access request process, including approval of segregation of duties (SoD) conflicts and the design of mitigating controls.
  • Ensure control compliance in tooling-related projects and drive the implementation of standardized automated controls within ERP systems.
  • Act as the internal control liaison for system implementation, collaborating closely with Global Process Owners (GPOs), Information Management, and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to continuously assess, improve, and maintain the internal control framework across entities and regions.
  • Lead the communication and rollout of updated internal control policies, procedures, and guidance to ensure clear understanding and adoption.
  • Support and monitor action plans addressing audit findings and control deficiencies, ensuring timely and quality execution across the organization.
  • Facilitate audit readiness, serve as key contact for internal and external auditors, and provide strategic input during closing meetings and reviews.
  • Contribute to the global improvement of the internal control framework through structured feedback, best practice sharing, and enhancement proposals.

Job requirements

  • Completed higher education with a focus on business, finance, IT, or a related field.
  • Solid hands-on experience in SAP access, application controls, or internal control frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of SAP GRC and automated controls.
  • Background in Governance, Risk & Compliance and / or audit (e.g. Big 4 environment).
  • Excellent communication skills in English—both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and consulting skills; proficient in Excel and Power BI.
  • High integrity, with strong prioritization and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cultures and functions.
