What will you be doing?

Designing and implementing functionalities in IT systems.

Supporting other developers in implementing functionalities in IT systems.

Taking care of quality, consistency, and completeness of solutions.

Keeping up with current technological market trends of data engineering.

Supporting a maintenance team in troubleshooting.

Sharing knowledge with the team.

Participating in Aviva-led projects as business needs arise

What we’re looking for?

Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in Snowflake scripting - stored procedures (PLSQL or python), user defined functions, Common Table expressions, Window functions.
  • Experience in using Snowpark.
  • Knowledge of ETL / ELT and Snowflake architecture.
  • Knowledge of various file formats (Parquet, JSON, YAML)
  • DBT (Data build tool or any other commercial ETL tool) hands on experience in creating models as per requirements, using macros, jinja scripting, hooks, automated tests, snapshots, DBT packages.
  • Understanding Snowflake concepts like data sharing, replication, dynamic data masking using masking policies, secure views, row access policies concepts, tags, streams, tasks, external tables, time travel, clone, storage integration, stages, clustering of larger tables on clustering keys, role-based access control
  • Familiarity with git concepts like creation of branches, cloning of repo, creation of pull requests, resolving conflicts, code reviews.
  • Knowledge of Apache airflow to schedule pipelines.
  • Understanding basic principles of data structure and data modelling.
  • Knowledge of Azure Devops pipelines, agents, repos.
  • Understanding of AWS services S3, EC2, EMR, Lambda
  • Qualifications nice to have : Snowflake certifications.

Software Development Skills :

  • Experience with software engineering best practices such as design patterns, code review, testing, and documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues in distributed systems.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies like Agile or Scrum.
  • Communication and Collaboration :

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in multinational teams including the main stakeholders, data analysts, and software engineers.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, code reviews and retrospectives.
  • Leadership and Mentoring :

  • Experience leading or mentoring less seasoned team members, providing guidance on best practices, code reviews, and technical skills development.
  • Business Acumen :

  • Understanding of the business domain and the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience working closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability :

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving tools and practices in the data engineering ecosystem.
