Overview

Join Surfshark’s VPN Engineering team as a Senior Back-end Engineer and help shape the orchestration layer of our next-generation networking platform. You’ll design and build control plane services in Go that securely manage thousands of workloads worldwide, driving APIs, rollouts, and health tracking at scale. Working alongside a senior team, you’ll tackle tough distributed systems and security challenges, making a direct impact on how our platform runs and evolves.

Responsibilities

Design and implement the control plane services in Go that manage workloads across a large fleet;
Build APIs for configuration distribution, rollout coordination, and health tracking;
Integrate with identity systems (OIDC, mTLS, token services) for secure bootstrap and operations;
Work closely with other engineers to ensure smooth rollout waves, canary deployments, and automated recovery;
Contribute to observability : exposing service metrics, building dashboards, setting up alerts;
Participate in code reviews, system design, and long-term architecture planning

Qualifications

Experience designing and operating distributed systems (control planes, schedulers, config management, etc.);

Familiarity with authentication / authorization standards (OIDC, OAuth2, JWT, mTLS);

Experience building APIs and working with manifest-driven or declarative configuration systems;

Solid understanding of monitoring, metrics, and health-based rollouts

Bonus points

Have had exposure to Kubernetes-style reconciliation loops, service mesh, or large-scale rollout systems
