Overview

Category Manager – Packaging & Material Handling is a key role in the Indirect Strategic Sourcing team. You will work with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to develop and implement sourcing strategies that drive value for Aptiv. The focus is on Packaging Materials and Material Handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, racking systems) across the region, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational excellence. Aptiv’s Indirect Strategic Sourcing team is known for delivering savings and innovation, with autonomy and support to lead transformation and strategic initiatives.

Your Role

  • Implement robust category strategies for Packaging and Material Handling that support Aptiv’s regional and global sourcing objectives.
  • Partner with stakeholders and cross-functional teams (e.g., PC&L, Engineering, Quality, Legal) to deliver sourcing solutions that drive performance, innovation, and sustainability.
  • Monitor market trends and supplier landscapes to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Lead strategic sourcing projects, including supplier selection, commercial negotiations, and contract management (above $250k APV).
  • Continuously improve sourcing processes and tools to enhance value delivery and compliance.
  • Support Aptiv’s packaging sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and circular economy strategies.
  • Develop suppliers’ capabilities, renew suppliers, and steer towards engaging a new ecosystem.
  • Contract management, vendor selection, negotiation.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering and Plant Management to ensure project execution on time, within budget, and with quality.
  • Generate cost savings (yearly performance).

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or equivalent (Master’s preferred) with +5 years of sourcing experience in a similar role (preferred in manufacturing or automotive).
  • Proven experience in Packaging and / or Material Handling categories is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in dynamic, fast-changing environments requiring adaptability and resilience.
  • Capability to operate independently while exercising a high level of responsibility and sound decision-making.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization with various functional stakeholders and across regions.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities. Ability to design and implement medium to long-term category strategy.
