We are excited to announce the development of our new Software Development Hub in Warsaw—an important step in our global growth. This initiative brings together top technical talent to optimise processes and shape the future direction of our organisation.
About the Role
The Lead Engineer is a recognised senior engineering authority responsible for advancing enterprise‑scale software and digital product development capabilities, ensuring alignment with overarching platform and architecture strategies. Acting as a bridge between vision and execution, this role drives the adoption of modern engineering practices, tools, and standards—enabling consistent, scalable, and secure delivery of digital solutions across a complex enterprise ecosystem. This is a senior specialist role with process leadership responsibilities, ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating teams and improving processes, even without formal people‑management duties.
This position demands deep technical mastery, strategic foresight, and the ability to influence and elevate engineering excellence across teams. The Lead Engineer serves as a trusted engineering expert and advisor to architects, platform owners, and product leaders, shaping enterprise engineering direction while mentoring teams to apply best practices pragmatically. Through thought expertise and hands‑on guidance, the Lead Engineer champions modern paradigms such as cloud‑native development, DevSecOps, Developer Experience (DevEx), and platform engineering—accelerating innovation while steering platform modernization initiatives such as CMS transformation and the evolution of other critical enterprise platforms.
Responsibilities
- Lead the evolution of software digital product development practices, ensuring alignment with enterprise platform strategies (e.g., CMS Platform evolution, data foundation, integration platforms).
- Define and maintain engineering guardrails and reusable assets (e.g., Technological Radars, maturity models, playbooks) that make enterprise IT strategy executable in daily product delivery.
- Partner with Platform Architects and Owners to ensure digital products leverage shared platform capabilities, avoid duplication, and contribute to platform innovation.
- Drive modernization by embedding practices such as cloud‑native architectures, DevSecOps, DevEx, observability, and automation, ensuring digital products are secure, scalable, and resilient.
- Mentor and coach engineering teams and leaders, fostering a culture of craftsmanship, autonomy, and continuous improvement in digital product delivery.
- Act as a technical subject‑matter expert in organisational design and engineering ecosystems, shaping the operating model for agile digital product and platform delivery.
- Provide strategic insight into emerging technologies and engineering practices, ensuring VELUX’s digital product ecosystem remains competitive, compliant, and future‑ready.
