Job description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

Your career opportunity

We are hiring a Service Reliability Engineer to join the Digital Business Automation (DigiBA) team in CTO Infrastructure. Our platform provides mission-critical services including Control-M, IBM Sterling File Gateway, and Connect : Direct — supporting thousands of batch and file movement operations daily across HSBC’s global estate.

In this role, you will focus on data-driven reliability engineering — turning insights from incidents, change records, capacity data, and operational KPIs into tangible improvements. You will partner with engineering and operations teams to drive platform stability, identify patterns, and embed proactive practices across our distributed and mainframe-based environments.

What you need to have to succeed in this role

  • Experience in service reliability, production support, or platform operations at scale.
  • Strong analytical mindset and ability to interpret trends across complex data sets.
  • Familiarity with automation / orchestration platforms such as Control-M or IBM SFG.
  • Understanding of ITIL principles (esp. incident, problem, and change) and DevOps culture.
  • Experience with monitoring tools, dashboards, and reporting solutions (e.g. Splunk, Grafana, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, batch processing, and file transfer workflows.
  • Proactive communicator with strong documentation and facilitation skills.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and a user-oriented reliability mindset.
